Sarah Barnwell Elliott Letters, . 1886-1896

Sarah Barnwell Elliott, daughter of Charlotte Bull Barnwell and Stephen Elliott, was a novelist, playwright, and suffragist of Sewanee, Tenn. Twenty-one letters, 1886-1887, from Sarah Barnwell Elliott traveling in Europe, to her mother Charlotte Bull Barnwell Elliott, Sewanee, Tenn.; and two items relating to Elliott's brother-in-law, Bishop Francis Asbury Shoup (1834-1896). Elliott's letters give detailed descriptions of scenes and experiences in France, Italy, England, Egypt, the Suez Canal, and the Holy Land. The Shoup items are a handwritten article by him on the sacrament of confession and a tribute to him.
